PermaGuild is a new word —- created by blending the two words “permaculture” and “guild”.

Guild is the term used to refer to specific collections of plants, shrubs and trees that work well together. Each element has one or more roles to play, often producing food in its own right but also supporting other elements. Together the guild is expected to be more productive and sustainable than in conventional gardening or farming practices.

A plant guild is a grouping of plants carefully selected and placed together in a way that mimics the structure and function of a natural ecosystem. The idea behind a plant guild is to create a mutually beneficial relationship between plants.
